Tide Pool prostrate speedwell is a Chicagoland Grows® selection. Chicagoland Grows® is a plant introduction partnership of the 91½ûÂþ, the Morton Arboretum and the Ornamental Growers Association of Northern Illinois formed to promote plant cultivars that perform well in northern Illinois. This variety was developed at the 91½ûÂþ; it is a cross between Veronica armena and Veronica pectinata ‘Rosea’. Tide Pool speedwell plants cover themselves with medium to deep blue-violet flowers from late April into mid-May. The rest of the growing season, they settle into attractive groundcovers that seem to handle cold, heat, humidity, rain, and drought equally well.
